Preparation of a Lisbon programme for the new period

The Lisbon Strategy was relaunched in 2005 when all Member States developed national action plans for the next three years to promote economic growth and create new and better jobs. The first planning cycle of the Lisbon Strategy has ended, and summaries of the implementation of the strategy have been prepared.

The Member States discuss the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy at the European Council at Head of State and Government level every spring. The Spring European Council of 14–15 March 2008(pdf) decided to launch a new 3-year cycle (2008–2011) of the Lisbon Strategy.

The new Action Plan has to be submitted to the European Commission by 15 October 2008.
