Stenbock House, 15 December 2014 – At its cabinet meeting today, the Government decided to support the proposal of the Minister of Health and Labour to initiate a pilot project for implementing personalised medicine in health care in 2015–2018. Consequently, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications were given the task of developing the funding plan of the project along with the areas of responsibility and the sources for covering the state budget expenditure. The plan is to be completed by 13 February next year.
The direct objectives of the personalised medicine pilot project include the validation of the ability to implement and effectiveness of personalised medicine in clinical patient treatment in at least three areas; the development of the information and data management infrastructure for a personalised approach (i.e. based on individual health, behaviour, genetics and other information) in disease prevention and treatment; and the introduction of an ecosystem of research and development and innovation to support knowledge transfer in universities and businesses.
