International skating competitions at Tondiraba Ice Hall in January received a special permit

Stenbock House, 16 December 2021 – The government deemed the European Championships from 12–16 January and the Four Continents Championships from 19–23 January at the Tondiraba Ice Hall to be events of overwhelming social impact and will allow up to 3,000 spectators on each day of the competition.

The events are organised by the Estonian Skating Union. The Tondiraba Ice Hall has a maximum capacity of 5,840 permanent seats. The spectators will be divided between the first and second level and will not come into contact with the competitors or the organisers. Spectators will be obliged to wear masks throughout the events and trumpets, whistles, megaphones, etc. will not be permitted.

The Skating Union has also received a permit to cater to people involved in the competitions at the hotel after 11 p.m.

35 countries have registered for the European championships and 13 for the Four Continents Championships. Both competitions will take place right before the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Top athletes are expected in Tallinn.
