Stenbock House, 30 October 2014 – Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Urve Palo introduced the restructuring plan of Estonian Air to the members of the Government, which provides for involving a private investor, who will have a majority holding in the air carrier.
According to Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, the position of Government on the inclusion of investor is positive, but the Ministry still needs to answer several questions.
“For example, we need to be sure that the offer selected by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications is the best both in terms of the position of the tax payer and the company’s future,” the Prime Minister said.
The members of the Government have also questions on how a specific tenderer was reached and whether it is a transparent process that is understandable to all in the same way.
The Government will continue reviewing the restructuring plan of Estonian Air in the coming weeks.
Before final decision, these questions need to be answered. The Government can decide on the issue of Estonian Air in March 2015, when the European Commission has evaluated State aid.
