Tallinn, Stenbock House, 28 September 2017 – Prime Minister Jüri Ratas placed flowers on the Estonia monument today in memory of the victims of the disaster along with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and their Finnish counterpart Juha Sipilä.

23 years ago on 28 September, the ferry sank on its way from Tallinn to Stockholm. There were 989 people on board and 852 of them lost their lives. Most of the passengers were Swedes and Estonians.

“It is a painful disaster for all Estonian people which will never be forgotten. In memory of all the victims, I with my Swedish and Finnish colleagues placed flowers on the Estonia shipwreck memorial. My sincere condolences go out to the loved ones of those who lost their lives,” Prime Minister Ratas said.
