Tallinn, Stenbock House, 6 December 2012 – Today, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip received the letter of resignation of the Minister of Justice, Kristen Michal. Under the Government of the Republic Act, the Prime Minister will deliver the letter of resignation to the President. The Prime Minister will hand over the Justice Minister’s resignation letter to the President on Monday. The board of the Reform Party will nominate a new candidate for the position of Minister of Justice at its meeting on Friday.
The Prime Minister thanked Kristen Michal for his contribution. The Prime Minister noted that under Kristen Michal’s leadership substantial changes aimed at improving the protection of fundamental rights have been made, the long-awaited Public Service Act and the new Anti-corruption Act have been adopted, and the prison reform has been implemented.
Under the Government of the Republic Act, the Prime Minister has up to a month to submit the Justice Minister’s resignation letter to the President of the Republic of Estonia, who has up to three days to make a decision on the letter.
