Prime Minister Mart Laar will pay an official visit to Lithuania

PRESS RELEASE DECEMBER 1, 1999

The Prime Minister and Mrs. Katrin Laar will leave tomorrow for a three-day long official visit to Lithuania.

The Prime Minister´s visit includes meetings with President Valdas Adamkus, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and the President of the Lithuanian Parliament, the Seim Mr. Vytautas Landsbergis.

During his visit, Mr Laar will deliver a lecture at the University of Vilnius, pay a visit to the Vilnius Hansa Bank branch office, lay a wreath at the Monument of the Freedom Fighters will open a Estonian-Lithuanian business seminar, will pay a visit to the Hansa bank branch office in Vilnius, will give a press-conference and have a walk in Vilnius old town and visit the Museum of Genocide victims.

On the third day of the visit, Prime Minister Mart Laar will visit the Memorial to the Victims of Genocide and Participants of the Resistance Movement, will have a walk in the old town of Kaunas and visit the Pazaislis Monastery near Kaunas. Later the same day Mr. Laar will visit the Air Surveillance and Co-ordination Centre in Karmelava

During his meetings with his Lithuanian hosts Mr. Lair plans to discuss internal and economic matters, discuss continuing bilateral co-operation, integration with the EU, including trade and customs co-ordination between Estonia and Lithuania, preparations for joining NATO as well as regional co-operation.

The Prime Minister will be joined by a delegation of Estonian businessmen.

On his official visit to Lithuania the Prime Minister´s Diplomatic Affairs Adviser Mr. Simmu Tiik and Economic Policy Adviser Mrs. Kersti Kaljulaid will accompany him.

Mrs. Katrin Laar will visit Vilnius old town, the Jesuit Monastery of Saint Kazimiera, the Jesuit College and Vilnius Art Galleries.

The Prime Minister will return to Estonia with an aircraft of the Estonia Border Guard on December 4th, at approximately 18 hrs.
