Prime Minister Meets with Chairman of Riigikogu`s Special Anti-corruption Commission

Prime Minister Laar met today with Jaan Pöör who heads the special parliamentary commission set up to implement the law on fighting corruption. Pöör gave a report on the commission`s activities and an overview of the implementation of the corruption busting law in 1999 to the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said that the commission has stuck to its tasks and done the work well. Pöör, for his part, was satisfied that cooperation among the commission, government and ministries has been good.
They also discussed the problems that emerged during the implementation of the statute on combating corruption, and the possibilities for revising and refining the statute.
Both the chairman of the commission and the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of fighting corruption by the state institutions and the need for them to collaborate in order to prevent corruptive acts and profit, and the development of corruptive ties.
