Prime Minister Opens A2000 Info Center on Wednesday

The State Chancery of the Republic of Estonia has established the A2000 Info Center for the turn of the century. Its purpose is to distribute operational information on the functioning of the essential systems and infrastructure, and to make available information on the situation existing during the transition. The Center will be opened on December 29, at 14:00 o`clock, at Rahukohtu 2, in Tallinn. Prime Minister Mart Laar and Aino Lepik von Wiren, the Secretary of the Chancery, will participate at the opening ceremony.
The Center will be open as follows:
December 30, 1999 - 8:30 to 17:00
December 31, 1999 - 8:30 to 24:00
January 01, 2000 - 0:00 to 12:00
The Center will forward information to similar centers located all over the world on how Estonia's infrastructure, communications and other essential systems are operating during the threat of computer problems associated with the arrival of 2000. At the same time, the Center will inform Estonia`s media and residents of computer problems in the world and in Estonia. At the opening of the Center Wednesday, Arvo Ott, the director of the Information Systems Department of the State Chancery, and Katri Tammsaar, director of the State Chancery' s 2000 Project, will introduce the Centers activities and assignments. A200 Info Center invites mass media to work together with the Center during the turn of the century. During the night of the transition, the Center will be working and informing the media of any year-2000 computer problems.
