Tallinn, Stenbock House, November 18, 2004 At the meeting with the prime minister of Bulgaria, Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, which took place today at Stenbock House, Prime Minister Juhan Parts said that Estonia was supporting Bulgaria in its bid to join the European Union.
Both prime ministers emphasized that they expected bilateral relations between Estonia and Bulgaria to increase, especially in the fields of economic cooperation and tourism.
"Estonia and Bulgaria are already allies in NATO and we hope that, before long, in the European Union as well," noted Juhan Parts and added that the European Union requires much closer bilateral relations for practical cooperation.
According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bulgaria expects to sign the accession treaty with the European Union next spring. Prime Minister Parts said that Estonia supported Bulgaria and expressed hope that Bulgaria´s accession to the European Union will take place in 2007.
