Prime Minister Ratas to the Dutch Prime Minister: The Ukraine-EU Association Agreement is important for both the EU and Ukraine

Stenbock House, 9 December 2016 - Today, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas had a telephone conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte who congratulated Jüri Ratas on his appointment as prime minister. The Prime Ministers also discussed the state of play in the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement

Prime Minister Rutte informed Prime Minister Ratas about the steps taken by the Netherlands towards the ratification of the association agreement as well as about the steps still need to be accomplished in order to ratify the agreement.

Jüri Ratas thanked the Dutch Prime Minister for his efforts in ratifying the association agreement, pointing out that the agreement is in the interest of both the EU and Ukraine. “The association agreement will contribute to reforms in Ukraine and bring them closer to the European Union,” emphasised Ratas during his telephone conversation.

“I hope that at the next week’s European Council meeting in Brussels, we will come to a solution that is best suited to all; the Netherlands, the other member states, and to Ukraine,” added Ratas.
