Stenbock House, 17 December 2014 – Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas is travelling to Brussels today to participate in the European Council meeting on Thursday and Friday.

This European Union top-level meeting will mainly concentrate on improving the investment environment. The discussions will focus on favouring investments, structural reforms and budgetary discipline as the preconditions for European economic growth.

The EU heads of state and government intend to call for the establishment of a European strategic investment fund to mobilise investments. The fund would complement the existing EU programmes and the traditional European Investment Bank activities by investing EUR 315 billion in strategically important fields over the next three years. In addition to funding from the European Investment Bank and the Commission, the investment fund would ideally receive payments from member states and national investment banks too.

The Council will also discuss the situation in Ukraine.
