Hansson will advise the prime minister on both economics and finance.
In 2012–2019, Hansson was the Governor of Eesti Pank and consequently served on the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. In 1998–2012, Hansson held various positions at the World Bank, where he led the World Bank’s economic policy department in China and worked with Eastern European and Balkan countries. In 1993–1998, he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank.
Hansson has held the office of economic adviser to the Prime Minister of Estonia also in 1992–1994 and in 1997. In 1991–1992, he was an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prior to that, Hansson worked at several prestigious universities. Hansson holds a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
The prime minister’s office consists of advisers and assistants who advise and support the prime minister. Gerrit Mäesalu took up the office of the Head of the Prime Minister’s Office in late January.
