According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, she is satisfied with the budget agreement, Estonia’s key objectives have been fulfilled, and the long-term support of the EU is also a signal for our partners. Ukraine will be able to use the funds to run the country in wartime, to make investments, and to prepare for accession to the European Union.
“All-around support for Ukraine must remain a priority for Estonia and the rest of European Union until Putin’s bloody invasion ends,” Kallas said.
“It is also important that we have increased defence funding in the budget, which will increase the budget of the European Defence Fund by 1.5 billion euros. These investments will strengthen the EU’s defence capabilities through the development of technologies,” she said.
The prime minister stressed that it is important to go ahead with the million artillery rounds initiative. “Providing military support to Ukraine is directly linked to defending both Estonia and Europe. We need to think outside of the box: speed up the production of the military industry, simplify the rules, look for new funding opportunities, etc.,” she added. “We still need to isolate Russia, continue with sanctions, and move forward with the EU’s 13th sanctions package.”
