Stenbock House, 22 April 2021 – At a cabinet meeting, members of the government approved a decision to continue vaccinating frontline workers who are at increased risk of contracting the coronavirus as a result of their work. The vaccination of frontline workers will only be started when the majority (i.e. 70%) of people over the age of 70 have been vaccinated in at least half of the counties.

The main focus of vaccination remains on risk groups. However, given the vaccine supply schedule, it will be possible to direct enough vaccine doses to vaccinate frontline workers over the next three weeks to continue the vaccination process from where it was interrupted by a drastic reduction in the promised vaccine supplies. In the coming weeks, it is planned to complete the vaccination of up to 23,000 frontline workers with the first dose. Solutions for the rest of the frontline workers will also be developed in cooperation with employers.

The extent of the vaccination depends on the actual volume of the doses delivered.

Gradually, the possibility of vaccination will open up for the entire Estonian population. After the 70+ age group, people between the ages of 60 and 69 will be offered the vaccination; next, people between the ages of 50 and 59 can get vaccinated, and then all other age groups between the ages of 16 and 49.

The state has set a goal to provide at least one dose of vaccination to all those who wish by the end of June. The goal is to vaccinate 70 per cent of the adult population by the autumn.

As at this morning, a total of 295,744 people have been vaccinated in Estonia, of whom 205,876 have received one dose and 89,868 two doses. This means that more than 27.5 per cent of the population has been vaccinated in Estonia. In the 70–79 age group, more than 60% of people have been vaccinated. In the 60–69 age group, more than 43% of people have been vaccinated.
