As of that date, the building will be home to six ministries: the Ministry of the Climate and Environment (the successor to the Ministry of the Environment), the Ministry of Regional Affairs (the successor to the Ministry of Rural Affairs), the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Information Technology (the successor to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications), the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance, the latter four of which are already based in the building. The names of the ministries being reorganised have yet to be finalised.
State Secretary Taimar Peterkop, who chairs the steering committee of secretaries-general of the ministries in question, says the restructuring of the ministries is designed to ensure greater flexibility in state governance. “It will enable the government to deal with major social challenges like the green transition and regional inequality very effectively,” he said, “and it will also boost cooperation between government agencies.”
In addition to the steering committee for the restructuring of the ministries, working groups have been formed to deal with practical matters pertaining to the restructuring such as budgets, personnel and IT. The first migration of workplaces resulting from the restructuring has now been mapped. No positions will be cut in the current stage of restructuring, with analysis and review of work processes to take place at a later date. Work pertaining to the reorganisation of the ministries has already commenced, with the process due for completion by the end of the year.
