“In the current security situation, it has come as a bad surprise to Russia that Western countries are so united in their opposition of the ultimatums of Russia. Russia is now trying to divide us by sending separate letters and escalating the situation with various provocations. Unity is the best deterrence to prevent the situation from deteriorating in Ukraine,” said Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, adding that the countries of the European Union and the United States have jointly developed a package of sanctions in case Russia expands its aggression. “I thanked the Swedish Prime Minister for cooperating with NATO in strengthening security in the Baltic Sea – Sweden is one of the closest partners of NATO,” Kallas said.
During the first longer meeting of the two prime ministers, they also discussed cooperation in the Baltic Sea region and the European Union. The Swedish Prime Minister considers Nordic–Baltic cooperation a matter of great importance and wants to see our region be the most integrated, sustainable, and digitalised region in the world. “The biggest challenge that the European Union will be facing in the coming decades is achieving climate neutrality, which will provide an opportunity to make the current economic model more sustainable and efficient. We want to work closely with the Swedes to achieve our climate goals,” said Kallas.
Prime Minister Kaja Kallas also invited Magdalena Andersson to visit Estonia.
