Media Accreditation: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to Visit Estonia

Stenbock House, 9 October 2026 – NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will visit Estonia on Wednesday, 14 October. During his visit, he will meet with Prime Minister Kristen Michal, the President of the Republic of Estonia and Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. He will also visit Ämari Air Base and deliver a public lecture at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech).

“NATO is delivering. We can see this clearly in the Baltic region: in the air, where allied aircraft respond to airspace violations; at sea, where NATO ships are deployed as part of the Baltic Sentry activity; and on land, where units from our NATO allies are serving. We are grateful to our allies for their contributions, and we are doing our part as well. This year and in the years to come, our defence spending will exceed 5% of GDP,” said Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

At 11:40, Prime Minister Kristen Michal will meet with Mark Rutte at Stenbock House. They will discuss the future of the Alliance and support for Ukraine.

At 12:25, the Prime Minister of Estonia and the NATO Secretary General will hold a joint press conference at the Statehood House. The press conference will also be streamed live in Estonian and English:

At 12:45, Mark Rutte will have a working lunch with Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna at the Statehood House.

At 14:20, the NATO Secretary General will deliver a public lecture at Tallinn University of Technology, followed by a question-and-answer session with students.

At 17:00, the NATO Secretary General will visit Ämari Air Base, where he will be welcomed by Minister of Defence Martin Herem and Lieutenant General Andrus Merilo, Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces. During the visit, he will observe Exercise Steadfast Duel and meet with representatives of the Turkish Air Force. Media coverage of these meetings will not be possible.
