Riigikogu, December 12, 2016 - Minister of Rural Affairs Tarmo Tamm took office today, taking the oath of office before the Riigikogu.
“In undertaking to perform the duties of a member of the Government of the Republic, I am aware that I shall bear responsibility in this office before the Republic of Estonia and my conscience. I solemnly swear to remain faithful to the constitutional order of the Republic of Estonia and to devote my strength to securing the welfare and future of the people of Estonia,” said Tarmo Tamm in reciting the oath of office of a Government member.
President Kersti Kaljulaid named Tarmo Tamm the Minister of Rural Affairs on Friday. According to the law, a Minister can start fulfilling his or her duties after having taken the oath of office before the Riigikogu.
Before he became the Minister of Rural Affairs, Tarmo Tamm was a member of the Riigikogu and the Vice-Chairman of the Finance Committee; he has also been the Vice-Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the Riigikogu.
Tarmo Tamm was a member of the Põlva City Council during 1999-2013 and was also the Mayor of Põlva until 2011. Before that, he belonged to the Council of Põlva Rural Municipality and was the Mayor of the Põlva Municipality. Tamm has also worked as the workshop manager of Põlva Agro for a number of years.
Tamm graduated from the Tihemetsa State Farm Technical School in the area of mechanization, and from the Estonian University of Life Sciences as an agrarian economist.
