Prime Minister Kallas says that in organising the Digital Summit being held in Tallinn today, Estonia is seeking to help bring together, through digital infrastructure, societies and countries that share the same values. “I hope today’s discussions generate ideas for President Biden’s Summit for Democracy,” Kallas said.
Discussing defence cooperation, Prime Minister Kallas stressed the value that Estonia places on the role played by the United States in NATO and its contribution to security in our region. “The U.S. military presence in Estonia and our region more broadly is very important from the point pf view of European security as a whole,” she remarked.
Also discussed during the meeting was international tax policy. “The corporate income tax system we currently have in Estonia has served us well, as is reflected in our economic indicators, which have been relatively good even during the coronavirus crisis,” Prime Minister Kallas explained. “It’s important that big companies making a profit pay income tax as well. That’s why we need a coordinated global system to fight tax avoidance.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo is in Estonia to attend the digital summit in Tallinn.
