Prime Minister Kallas meets the NATO Secretary General in Munich

Kallas and Stoltenberg emphasised that we need to be prepared for the possibility that the security crisis caused by Russia could last for a long time. “NATO’s clear messages and our strong defence and deterrence posture are the only right approach to Russian aggression,” said Kallas.

According to Prime Minister Kallas, the latest developments on Ukraine’s borders and Russia’s increasingly bellicose rhetoric show a growing escalation. “From the security aspect of the Baltic Sea region, the concentration of Russian troops and military equipment in Belarus must be particularly carefully monitored. This development has created an urgent need to further strengthen NATO’s presence in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania,” the prime minister stressed. The prime minister added that we are expecting decisions on the strengthening of NATO’s deployments in our region at the NATO summit in Madrid.
