Prime Minister Kallas on official visit to Latvia

Stenbock House, 15 October 2021 – Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is on an official visit to Latvia today, during which she will be discussing bilateral cooperation, the forthcoming EU Summit, large-scale cross-border projects and regional security with her Latvian counterpart Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš.

“Estonia and Latvia are like-minded neighbours, friends and allies, and we are faced with a lot of the same challenges,” remarked Prime Minister Kallas ahead of her visit. “We will be discussing not only our efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, but also energy issues, the creation of modern unions and the security of our region. We work closely with Latvia in international organisations, thanks to which our voice is heard much more clearly. EU leaders will be gathering in the Council next week, and in Rīga we will be discussing the items on the agenda for that meeting as well.”

Prime Ministers Kallas and Kariņš will also be presenting the Estonian-Latvian Enterprise Award.

In the afternoon, the heads of government will be opening the high-level Rīga Conference – at which foreign policy and security experts, academics, journalists and entrepreneurs from all over the world will be speaking.

Before visiting the NATO Multinational Division North headquarters at Ādaži Military Base, where Prime Minister Kallas will be meeting with the Estonian contingent.
