Prime Minister Kallas thanks Estonian soldiers who have served on international military operations

The head of government says the country greatly appreciates the work of soldiers serving on international military operations. “In doing so you are boosting Estonia’s defensive capabilities and security,” she said. “My sincere thanks to each and every one of you, and your loved ones.”
Prime Minister Kallas remarked that foreign missions also represent a vital investment in the reinforcement of relationships with allies and in ensuring that Estonia contributes to international security. “Missions play an important role in training and in implementing in real life what has been learnt,” she said.

“Thanks to all of you, our Defence Forces have practical combat experience, making Estonia’s national defence as a whole all the stronger.”
The head of government also highlighted the skills and professionalism of soldiers serving on missions. “You are the face of Estonia, the country’s calling card, which is why I am delighted that our Defence Forces are such valued partners to our allies,” she said.

Prime Minister Kallas added that Estonia would never forget the 12 soldiers who paid the ultimate price while serving abroad, nor those injured in the line of duty. She encouraged anyone in need of the state’s support services – psychological assistance, specialist doctors and rehabilitation – to make use of them, stating that recognising problems was a sign of strength.

The majority of the soldiers attending the reception had served on the Barkhane, Minusma and EUTM missions in Mali and Afghanistan, solders how have served on missions in Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon and Mozambique were also present.
