The heads of state and government of the member states of the JEF will focus their discussion on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the security situation in the regions of priority for the JEF – the Baltic Sea, the North Atlantic, and the High North. The JEF’s activities in enhancing regional security will also be discussed, as well as the strategic importance of the JEF in responding to military threats in the region over the next decade.
The Joint Expeditionary Force is a UK-led form of defence cooperation. Estonia joined the JEF in 2018. In addition to the UK, the JEF consists of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. The Joint Expeditionary Force has an important role to play in strengthening deterrence and defence in the Baltic Sea region, both politically and defensively. The JEF is ready to react quickly at sea, on land, and in the air. The JEF flagship exercise “JEF Warrior”, planned for 2023, aims to demonstrate the capacity of the JEF member states of operating in difficult circumstances in these three domains. In a crisis situation, the primary role of the JEF is rapid response and force transfer, which makes it important to enhance interoperability between the participating countries.
