Prime Minister Michal says that Estonia greatly values Germany’s leading role in issues affecting European security. “Our two countries are working very closely together in support of Ukraine, and Germany’s contribution to the defence of the Baltic Sea region is crucial,” he remarked. “During my visit I will also be focusing on economic cooperation, which has enormous potential – not only in the defence industry and the field of innovation, but more broadly as well.”
During his meeting with Chancellor Merz, the Estonian head of government will be discussing joint efforts to end Russia’s aggression and ensure European security, including by bolstering the defence of the eastern flank of the EU and NATO. They will also be talking about cooperation within the EU and ways of strengthening bilateral relations.
The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference in German and Estonian at 15:00 local time which will be livestreamed at www.bundesregierung.de.
On Friday, Prime Minister Michal will be heading to Markranstädt near Leipzig, where he will open a Skeleton Technologies supercapacitor plant alongside the Saxony Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer. The plant represents an investment of 220 million euros. Supercapacitors made from components of European origin will help to significantly reduce the energy consumption of AI data centres and boost the reliability of the electricity grid.
