“France is a strategic partner of Estonia, who has made an important contribution to our security and that of our region,” Michal told Macron. “We’re extremely grateful to the French for this. We share France’s view that we need to work together to raise the defence capabilities of Europe and channel more resources into kick-starting our own defence industry.”
According to Michal, the coming winter will be decisive for the future of Ukraine and the European security architecture. “Russia is a direct threat to European security and peace, which is why it’s important to us to continue to support Ukraine’s victory in the war of aggression against Russia,” he said. “Russia will only back down in face of strength and resolve.”
Topics related to the European Union, in particular improving the competitiveness of the economy, were also discussed at the meeting.
“Security goes hand in hand with prosperity,” emphasised Michal. “We need to focus on cutting red tape and simplifying reporting by using more digital solutions. This would send an important message to investors that we’re not just making empty promises, but can also deliver fast and effective action.”
According to the Prime Minister, there is also significant potential for closer relations between Estonia and France in business diplomacy, especially in the fields of defence and technology. “French investors are increasingly interested in Estonian companies, especially Estonian renewable energy. The export of the services of our companies and their interest in the French market have also increased.”
In the evening, Michal will also meet with influential French entrepreneurs already active in the Estonian market. The Prime Minister will give them an overview of the government’s priorities in boosting the Estonian economy and improving the business environment.
